Position Summary
The Housing Maintenance Worker is responsible for completing routine and preventative maintenance and repairs to community housing units. This position supports safe and healthy living conditions for tenants through timely response to work orders, respectful communication, and strong problem-solving skills. Work may include carpentry, minor plumbing, appliance repair, painting, drywall patching, and general interior/exterior maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
· Housing Unit Repair & Maintenance
· Complete maintenance and repair tasks within housing units and band-owned properties.
· Perform basic carpentry, drywall patching, flooring repair, painting, and fixture replacement.
· Conduct basic plumbing work: unclogging drains, fixing taps, replacing toilet parts, etc.
· Replace / repair door hardware, windows, screens, locks, baseboards, etc.
· Install and maintain smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and appliances.
· Complete exterior maintenance on buildings including steps, porches, siding, and roof patching when required.
Preventative Maintenance & Inspections
· Perform inspections of units for hazards, wear, mold, leaks, ventilation issues, and safety concerns.
· Track and prioritize work orders and follow through in a timely manner.
· Maintain tools, equipment, and materials to ensure safe and proper operation.
· Documentation & Communication
· Complete written work orders, maintenance logs, and inventory tracking.
· Report major repairs or hazards to the Housing Manager immediately.
· Communicate respectfully with tenants, elders, and families when entering or repairing units.
· Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
Qualifications
· Valid Class G driver’s license required.
· Reliable personal vehicle required for travel between units.
· Experience in housing maintenance, construction, trades, or related work.
· Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical labour.
· WHMIS, First Aid/CPR, or willingness to obtain.
· Knowledge of housing safety codes and maintenance procedures is an asset.
· Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

· Self-motivated, reliable, and able to work with minimal supervision.
· Problem-solving skills with attention to detail and safety.
· Respectful, community-minded approach with cultural sensitivity
Lines of communication
• The Housing Maintenance Worker must report to their Manager, Director or Supervisor to that program.
