Health Records Transcription Professional - Permanent Part-Time
The Health Records Transcription Professional is responsible for the daily qualitative and quantitative analysis of all charts to ensure clinical documentation is accurate and complete as per legislation and hospital policies. This position may provide transcription of dictated material and records, data quality reports, productivity reports, deficiencies and delinquency notifications ets.

Rate of Pay: $27.267 - $29.637
Hours of Work: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm (weekdays)
Mandatory Requirements:
• Graduate of an approved Health Information or Medical Office program
• Must be able to type at a rate of 80 words per minute, 95% accuracy and data entry (6200 kph/95% accuracy)
• Proficiency in computer programs (Excel / Word / Meditech Expanse)
• Knowledge of medical terminology, pharmacology, anatomy
• Strong understanding of professional standards with respect to privacy, confidentiality, security of patient information and client records
• Must have an excellent work record, including attendance
• Must demonstrate a commitment to ensure personal safety, the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers and visitors
• Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in this organization
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience as a transcriptionist in a hospital or related health care facility
• Ability to speak and write in both official languages is considered an asset
Responsibilities:
• Analyze and edits medical reports for patient’s records in accordance with established format and priority guidelines.
• Prepares patient-related correspondence, physician’s memoranda and reports as requested.
• Proof reads transcribed medical reports for accuracy and completeness; makes corrections or ensures any noted inconsistencies/omissions are clarified by the author.
• Forwards any paper documents for scanning on patient’s medical records which include inpatients, emergency department, clinics, SDS, radiology, certain physicians, echo cardiogram, stress tests and fax out reports.
• Other duties include sorting and distributing documents, answering phones and all other clerical duties as well as support for other team members within the Health Records department.
• Responds to inquiries regarding the medical record as required.
• Provides instruction to professional staff on the proper use and operation of hospital’s dictation system.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient information and releases information in accordance with provincial legislation and hospital policy.
• Keep up-to-date with current hospital programs, Risk Management, WHMIS and Emergency Plans.
• Contribute to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families.
• Perform other duties as required.
