Role: Governance Specialist
Location: Fort Albany First Nation and other locations as may be agreed
About the Role:
We are seeking expressions of interest from knowledgeable candidates interested in providing services as a Governance Specialist to
strengthen Fort Albany First Nation’s governance systems and support
transparent, accountable decision-making. This role will work directly with the
Chief & Council and First Nation Administration to develop policies, codes, and structures
that align with the Nation’s values and priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
● Provide advice and guidance on governance frameworks, policies, and best practices.
● Assist in drafting laws, bylaws, and community codes.
● Support leadership in developing effective accountability and reporting structures.
● Organize governance training sessions for leadership and staff.
● Conduct research and prepare reports on governance trends and opportunities.
Qualifications:
● Degree in Political Science, Public Administration, or a related field is recommended.
● Strong knowledge of Indigenous governance, Treaty rights, and First Nations administration.
● Minimum 3 years’ experience in governance, policy, or leadership advisory roles an asset.
● Exceptional research, writing, and facilitation skills.
● Ability to work respectfully with leadership, Elders, and community members.
