Job Title: Child Welfare Law Development Coordinator
Reports To: Band Representative Lead
Position Summary
Matachewan First Nation (MFN) is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Child Welfare Law Development Coordinator to lead the community-driven development of a Child and Family Well-being Law under the jurisdiction of MFN.
Term: Contract, Part-Time (with potential for extension)
Hours of Work: Part-time with flexibility to work on weekends and evenings
Location: Hybrid Work Schedule, Matachewan First Nation
Compensation: $30.00 hourly
Start Date: As soon as possible
Areas of Responsibility
- Facilitate engagement sessions with Elders, youth, families and community members.
- Book venues for meetings and engagement events, arranging food and refreshments, creating posters and promotional materials and distributing flyers, newsletters and other communications.
- Competent computer skills, particularly with Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and/or Canva.
- Ensure that traditional knowledge and community voices are centered in the law-making process.
- Document community input.
- Research relevant laws, best practices and Indigenous child welfare models.
- Collaborate with legal experts and consultants to draft culturally appropriate legislation.
- Maintain organized records of all consultations, meetings and project resources.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Post-secondary education in Indigenous Studies, Social Work, Law or related field.
- Experience in project coordination, community engagement or policy development.
- Knowledge of Indigenous child welfare practices, Bill C-92 and First Nations governance.
- Acceptable recent Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check.
Working Conditions
- Some travel may be required for community engagement or meetings.
- Flexible work hours to accommodate community events and meetings.
- Combination of office-based and community-based work.
