Job Summary:
The Arena/Parks Attendant plays an important role within the Recreation Department. The incumbent is responsible for performing various tasks that help ensure the efficient operation and maintenance of all municipal parks and recreational facilities. This position will be assigned roles and duties based on seasonal operation requirements.
Position Responsibilities:
ARENA ATTENDANT:
- While acting as an arena attendant, incumbent will be responsible for general maintenance duties. This includes tasks such as painting, minor construction, grounds keeping, and basic maintenance of the ice resurfacer.
- Facilitate a positive, helpful, and friendly environment for all patrons attending and utilizing arena facilities.
- Conduct regularly scheduled ice surface maintenance.
- Responsible for general upkeep of ice surface including edging ice build-up & shaving, whitewashing, lining, and logo painting.
- Perform janitorial duties to ensure a consistently clean and safe environment at all facilities.
- Regularly inspect and perform minor services as needed to mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration equipment.
- Promptly report any issues with equipment or with relevant facilities to the Superintendent.
- Promptly report any property damage or suspected vandalism to the Superintendent.
- Properly maintain all records in accordance with the Operating Engineers Act.
- Maintain daily work performance and preventative maintenance logs.
PARKS:
- While acting within the role of park’s attendant, the incumbent is responsible to assist with maintenance of municipal parks, parks buildings, outdoor sport facilities, and surrounding grounds.
- Maintenance responsibilities include but are not limited to; grass cutting, vegetation maintenance, sport field maintenance including line painting, and assistance with special events held within the community.
- Provide assistance to equipment operators in the performance of trenching, grading, and landscaping projects being performed within municipal parks when needed.
- Responsible for tree maintenance which includes relevant tasks such as pruning, removing, planting, and repairing.
- Ensure the proper and safe working condition of all tools and equipment.
- Perform tool and equipment maintenance as needed.
- Responsible to uphold municipal parks to a high-level of cleanliness by removal of waste and inspecting areas on a regular basis.
- Perform daily dock and fuel tank inspections, and janitorial duties.
- Responsible for fuel dispensing, transient slip assignments, and sewage pump outs
- Properly maintain all records in accordance with the TSSA Liquid Fuels Compliance Standard and complete
- Promptly report any damage or suspected vandalism within municipal parks areas to the Superintendent.
- Facilitate supervision and training to summer student employees in the performance of their duties.
- Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of the municipality’s safety policies and procedures, as well as all applicable Ministry of Transportation regulations.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Successfully completed Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of relevant experience
- Valid “G” Ontario Driver’s Licence with acceptable driving record
- Must be willing to be trained to obtain Certified Arena Refrigeration Plant Technician Certificate (CARPT)
