Purpose

The WSIB Case Specialist is responsible for the comprehensive management of all workplace injury and illness claims in accordance with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act (WSIA) and applicable company policies. This role serves as the primary liaison between injured employees, WSIB representatives, healthcare providers, and operational teams, ensuring accurate claim submissions, timely benefits administration, and effective return-to-work (RTW) planning.
 
The Case Specialist applies a structured and proactive case management approach to support employee recovery, minimize lost-time injury (LTI) rates, and ensure legislative compliance.

Responsibilities
 
Case Management

  • Initiate and manage WSIB claims from initial report through closure.
  • Submit WSIB Form 7 and all required documentation within prescribed timelines.
  • Monitor claim decisions, benefits status, and communication from WSIB.

 Return-to-Work (RTW) Coordination

  •  Collaborate with supervisors, unions (if applicable), and healthcare providers to develop and monitor individualized modified work plans.
  • Maintain updated Functional Abilities Forms (FAFs) and track worker progress.
  • Ensure all RTW plans meet the duty-to-accommodate requirements under the Human Rights Code.

 
Communication & Liaison

  •  Serve as point of contact for WSIB representatives and internal stakeholders.
  • Support injured workers with understanding their rights and responsibilities.
  • Work closely with occupational health staff and safety personnel to support recovery and safe integration.

 
Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain secure, confidential records for all active and historical claims.
  • Track and analyze WSIB performance metrics.
  • Prepare regular reports and summaries for management review and compliance tracking.

 
Appeals Support

  • Assist with WSIB reconsideration and appeals processes when required.
  • Coordinate documentation and evidence collection in partnership with legal or third-party support, if applicable.
  • Participate in safety meetings, pre-start meetings and leadership tours to promote visibility


Training and Education

  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Human Resources, Nursing, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience managing WSIB claims in an industrial, construction, or mining environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of WSIA, OHSA, and Regulation 854 (Mines and Mining Plants).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage confidential data and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and electronic claim systems (e.g., eClaims, Parklane, Cority, Intelex or similar).
  • Preferred Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) or equivalent designation.
  • Experience in unionized workplaces.
  • Familiarity with modified work programs in physically demanding environments.

Working Conditions

  • Based at the Dome site in Timmins, Ontario, with occasional visits to other work areas or off-site medical/rehabilitation facilities.
  • May require early morning or late-day availability to coordinate with shift workers and supervisors.
  • Office-based role with frequent interaction with field teams, injured workers, and external agencies.
  • Maintains high levels of discretion and confidentiality in all communications and documentation.
