SUMMARY:
The Specialized Educator/Child and Youth Worker will support TFN children and families by promoting healthy development and well-being. They will assist in implementing individualized intervention plans, participate in child screening, and contribute to programs that meet each child’s unique needs. The role involves collaborating with families, community members, and other professionals to support positive growth and overall well-being.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implement individualized intervention plans with children and youth
- Collaborate with team members in the delivery of interventions for children with special needs
- Participate in the screening of children
- Contribute to team meetings by providing updates on the progress of children
- Communicate and collaborate with parents, caregivers, and other professionals regarding children’s needs and progress
- Assist in developing tools, methods, and activities that support healthy child development and safety
- Engage with community projects that promote the well-being of children and families
- Work in a variety of settings (Health Centre, school, daycare, home, etc.) to meet children and families in their daily environments
•EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- College diploma (DEC) in Specialized Education, Child and Youth Work, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Experience would be an asset
- Fluent in English; ability to communicate in French (oral and written) is an asset
- Provide a background check with the vulnerable sector or willing to obtain
- Valid driver’s license with access to a vehicle
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Knowledge of Timiskaming First Nation (TFN) services, administrative and operational policies and procedures
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of Indigenous communities, cultures, and perspective
- Knowledge of intervention with children and families
- Knowledge of the characteristics of child development
- Ability to listen, non-judgment, empathy, patience
- Professional objectivity
- Sense of initiative and creativity
- Good adaptation capacity
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software
