The Timmins Youth Wellness Hub (YWH) is offering a full time Senior Peer Support Worker position.
The vision of the Timmins YWH is to create a community for all youth to connect, belong, and grow.
As a Youth Wellness Hubs Ontario (YWHO) site, we aim to bring the right services to youth (12-25) and their families at the right time and in the right place. YWHO is improving Ontario’s mental health and substance use services for youth and their families by providing rapid access to mental health and substance use services with walk-in, low-barrier services and clear pathways to service.

JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Youth Wellness Hub Executive Director and alongside a coordinated service team, the Peer Support Worker will provide support to youth who access services and recreation at the Timmins Youth Wellness Hub (YWH). They will support and assist in creating a safe and accepting environment for youth (12-25 years old) with a special emphasis on the 2SLGBTQIA+, Indigenous youth and other marginalized community youth. Supports and services provided at the Timmins YWH include, but are not limited to: mental health, substance use, primary care, employment/training, housing, skills and well-being activities and other community and social services.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Work alongside Intake Coordinator to welcome new youth and help them navigate YWH services.
Welcome and introduce new youth to YWH staff and other youth.
Give new youth a tour, explain how the youth hub operates, and explain (and support) measurement-based care.
Explain the digital registration process and assist youth when required.
Provide outreach and engage youth in the community, building relationships with local middle and high schools.
Contribute to creating and maintaining a safe, welcoming, non-judgmental and non-stigmatizing hub atmosphere.
Meet with youth one on one to provide general peer support.
Accompany and assist youth who need support to community services.
Refer any youth in need of crisis, mental health, or other core service supports to appropriate staff.
Refer any youth in need of community and social support to the best suited organization.
Work towards creating an inclusive culture with youth aged 12 to 25 in a supportive and respectful manner.
Work from a harm reduction, trauma informed, and youth-centered approach.
Facilitate planned activities with Youth Hub Staff.
Set-up and implement skills and well-being activities in collaboration with the Programming and Wellbeing Coordinator.
Work in conjunction with Hub Staff and provide support as required.
Co-lead programs in person or virtually as required.
Provide feedback to staff team regarding individual feedback on service, programs or individual needs brought forward by youth.
Create, plan, and schedule engaging social media content while managing related tasks to ensure consistent and effective online presence.
Always represent the Timmins YWH in a manner that reflects the Mission, Vision and Values of the Organization.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/ASSETS
Excellent communication/interpersonal skills
Education or volunteer/work experience in social services or related field
Lived experience with mental health and/or substance use issues is an asset
Knowledge of anti-oppression and inclusion including knowledge of supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ youth and creating positive spaces
Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous peoples, culture and healing practices
Ability to establish trusting relationships with youth while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
Ability to create a non-judgmental, inclusive youth-friendly environment where youth feel valued
Knowledge of community resources for youth is a requirement.
Familiarity with the Timmins YWH is an asset
Basic kitchen skills and knowledge of corresponding health and safety practices (food handling course) is an asset
Knowledge and experience using social media tools such as Canva, Meta Business Suite, Facebook and Instagram are assets.
Work well as a team member and individually
Willingness to attend a variety of training such as peer support, nonviolent crisis intervention, anti-oppression, ASIST, etc.
Bilingualism (French/English) is a requirement
A satisfactory and current Vulnerable Sector Screening is a requirement
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Can work variable hours that might include evenings, weekends and weekdays depending on work demands
Must be able to participate in team meetings, supervision and training sessions as required
Ability to work respectfully and collaboratively with other staff teams and abide by all Timmins YWH policies
Valid First Aid & CPR certificate or willingness to obtain.
Support with social media postings and updates
WORKING CONDITIONS
Working conditions are comparable to standard office conditions with minimal exposure to hazards.
Working variable hours including evenings and weekends.
SUPERVISION
The Senior Peer Support Worker reports to Timmins YWH Executive Director or delegated team member and attends supervision and staff meetings as scheduled. The Peer Support Worker is required to report safety concerns to the Executive Director. They are also expected to fully participate in all evaluation processes, i.e. program and staff evaluation.
SALARY RANGE
$45,000-$49,500 per year based on a 35-hour work week.
