The Risk Manager is responsible in the administration and coordination of risk management, safety, emergency preparedness and security services activities They provide functional safety knowledge in regulatory requirements, safety technical aspects which includes safety, industrial hygiene, environmental, behaviour-based safety, training, regulatory agency enforcement; assist with conducting regular safety drills as per the Emergency Preparedness plan/policies etc; assist leadership with conducting departmental risk assessments as part of the Risk Management program; ensure compliance with the Accessibility of Ontarians Disability Act (AODA); act as the management chair of the Joint Health and Safety Committee.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
·       Assist in the coordination of the Hospital’s Risk Management system to identify and evaluate hazards, risks, and implement effective controls, corrective solutions, consistent with risk management process.
·       Assist with the Emergency Preparedness priority process for Accreditation including conducting regular safety drills as per the Emergency Preparedness Plan and policies. Act as chair of the Emergency Preparedness Committee.
·       Helps in maintaining Healthcare Insurance Reciprocal of Canada (HIROC) self-assessment cycle by monitoring and identifying gaps to facilitate appropriate organizational policies and procedures, new initiatives and training within the organization. Provide communication and lead interactions with HIROC.
·       Responsible for the ongoing development and implementation of Health and Safety program within the Hospital.
·       Provide orientation/ongoing training to staff, physicians, volunteers etc. regarding Risk, Safety, Emergency Preparedness, Incident Reporting as required.
·       Participate in the development of programs that are reviewed in the Hospital’s Learning Management System by all new employees, physicians, students and volunteers.
·       Ensure that the Hospital is compliant in regards to regulatory activities i.e. Ministry of Labour etc., AODA and complete Ministry reports as required.
·       Gather and report data when requested on Health and Safety performance through the Hospital’s Incident Reporting System.
·       Monitor the Incident Reporting System that captures retrospective experiences as well as potential risk situations and improvement opportunities. Provide quarterly reports to appropriate committees.
·       Maintain a positive and professional relationship with the direct departmental reports and initiate conflict resolutions efforts when needed
·       Participate in day-to-day events such as resolving workflow issues, scheduling oversite, answering employee inquiries, etc.
·       Monitor department performance by conducting probation / performance evaluations and initiate corrective action when required.
·       In conjunction with Human Resources, participate in recruitment efforts such as screen resumes, attend interviews, and assist with onboarding.
·       Conduct coaching and disciplinary meetings following Hospital policies and procedures.
·       Investigate incidents and complete accident investigation reports. Conduct root cause analysis and determine corrective action. Provide guidance with relevant stakeholders if and when critical incidents occur.
·       Attend and participate in various committee and departmental meetings i.e. the Joint Health and Safety Committee, Emergency Preparedness Committee, Quality and Patient Safety Committee, Accessibility Committee.
·       Provide management oversight and guidance to the Hospital’s Security Services Department.

QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
·       Degree/diploma in Business Administration or a related discipline is required, emphasis on health and safety is preferred.
·       Change management and project management certification completed or in progress is considered an asset.
·       Training in Occupational Health and Safety or professional health and safety certificate is considered an asset

EXPERIENCE:
·       Minimum of one year experience in health and safety and/or risk management and/or emergency preparedness is preferred.
·       Experience in health care is considered an asset.
