Registered Practical Nurse – Integrated Mental Health Unit

Position Summary:
The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is a professional caregiver who is responsible and accountable for providing quality patient-focused care in accordance with the nursing philosophy, policies, and standards of the Timmins and District Hospital (TADH), the College of Nurses (CNO), and the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA).
Position Responsibilities:
- Must possess the ability to understand and apply the nursing principles and techniques associated with mental health nursing in an acute care setting across the age spectrum.
- Must possess the ability to communicate orally and in writing, in a purposeful and/or supportive manner with all ages, families, colleagues and with members of other health disciplines.
- Must possess the ability to perform adequately under stress and/or when confronted with the critical or unexpected.
- Must have physical strength and agility to participate in ward activities and respond to Code White situations.
- Must have the ability to participate as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team.
- Must have the ability to perform independently according to the Regulated Health Protection Act and learn skills as required for the unit: in accordance with the full scope of RPN practice; including but not limited to: IV therapy, medication administration and dressing changes.
Position Responsibilities:
- Must be registered with the Ontario College of Nurses and possess a current Certificate of Competence issued by the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- A minimum of six months’ current mental health experience.
- Must possess a working knowledge of the Mental Health Act and relevant legal forms.
- Current competency in CPR, IV therapy, Medication Administration, Management of Aggressive Behaviour (MOAB) and CPI.
- Must possess a working knowledge of available community resources.
- Must possess an employment history which demonstrates regular attendance at work.
- Must be available to work all shifts including weekends.
- Experience with data entry, Windows programs, and Meditech.
- Bilingualism (French and English) would be considered an asset.
- All TADH staff members must follow the COVID-19 vaccination series in accordance with the most up-to-date vaccine guidance provided by the Ontario Ministry of Health.
Compensation and Benefits
- Starting salary of $34.84/hour; $67,938.00/year (As per Step 1 of the STW collective agreement.)
- Option to enroll into Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan.
- Starting salary of $34.84/hour; $67,938.00/year range to 36.83/hour; $71,818.50/year
