Job Summary:
The Mechanic 310T Apprentice will work under the direct supervision of the Head Mechanic within the Public Works Department. The incumbent will be responsible for the general maintenance and repairs of all municipal fleet and equipment, ensuring they are safe and operate efficiently.
Position Responsibilities:
-Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and basic mechanical repairs on municipal fleet vehicles and equipment under the direction of the Head Mechanic.
-Assist with diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair work on light duty, heavy duty, and transit-related vehicles to ensure safe and efficient operation.
-Support compliance with Ministry of Transportation requirements, including CVOR standards, safety inspections, and roadworthiness regulations.
-Participate in scheduled preventative maintenance programs and assist in responding to emergency repair situations as required..
-Conduct road tests and post-repair inspections to verify the quality, safety, and effectiveness of completed work.
-Accurately complete work orders, inspection reports, maintenance records, and other documentation related to the trade in a timely manner.
-Utilize the computerized maintenance management system to record labour, parts, and repair activities in accordance with established procedures.
-Demonstrate a willingness to learn, develop technical skills, and progress through apprenticeship training requirements, while performing other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Requirements:
-Successfully completed Grade 12 or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
-Registered, or eligibility for registration in the Skilled Trades Ontario Apprenticeship Program for the Truck and Coach Technician (310T) trade
-Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with the ability to learn and apply mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems related to municipal fleet and equipment.
Commitment to successfully complete the Truck and Coach Technician (310T) apprenticeship program and obtain a valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification within prescribed timelines
-Ability and willingness to obtain a valid Ontario Class “D” Driver’s License with a “Z” endorsement within a specified period.
-Valid Ontario driver’s license, minimum Class “G,” with a satisfactory driving record.
-Basic computer skills, with the ability to learn and utilize a computerized maintenance management system.
-Knowledge of, or ability to learn, Ministry of Transportation regulations, including CVOR and vehicle safety standards.
