JOB
OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and
results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Senior Plant
Engineer/Officer.
Reporting to the Production Supervisor - Technical, this position is responsible to provide technical support in modifications and construction for hydroelectric generating stations located across Northeastern Ontario, as well as periodic condition assessment of assets and provide recommendations for their continued safe, reliable operation.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
· Perform work involving structural design, geotechnical design, engineering condition assessment, inspections, investigations, and evaluations of hydrodelectric structures such as dams, powerhouses and buildings as well as earth works.
· Preparation of drawings, technical specifications, assessment reports and scope of work documents related to civil rehabilitation projects.
· Assist in review and preparation of proposals related to civil design.
· Assist in review and approval of engineering drawings and documentation
· Perform the role of OPG Owner’s Engineer, recognize technical deficiencies, recommend remedial measures, review and approve engineering documents to the best of OPG’s interest and compliance with applicable codes and standards..
· Respond to emergencies, structural failures or unsatisfactory performance, conduct field investigations, prepare technical reports and recommend actions.
QUALIFICATIONS
· 4 year Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Geotechnical Engineering;
· Minimum 8 years of relevant industry experience with sound knowledge in the areas of analysis and design of Steel and Concrete Structures, or geotechnical investigations and design preferred; open to considering Civil Engineers with less than 8 years of experience as well;
· Experience in a Hydroelectric Power Plant is a highly desirable asset.
· Experience and knowledge of major design codes and standards such as NBC, OBC, and CSA associated with steel and concrete structures;
· Demonstrated ability to plan and organize in short and medium term and to prepare and meet budget and schedule commitments; Demonstrated effective interfacing and collaboration with key stakeholders;
· Experience with advising and coaching staff on applicable processes, procedures and engineering work;
· Demonstrated effective ability to manage multiple priorities and to influence others; Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills;
· Demonstrated knowledge of the OH&S Act and Regulations, specifically for Industrial Establishments;
· Valid Class G Ontario driving license (or equivalent) in good standing;
· Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario.
