SUMMARY: The Chief of Staff is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring the effective coordination, execution, and performance of operations within the TFN Health and Wellness Centre. Reporting directly to the Director of Health and Social Services, the Chief of Staff acts as a strategic partner, supporting the implementation of departmental priorities, overseeing administrative operations, and enhancing inter-professional collaboration across health programs. This role plays a central part in reinforcing service excellence, accountability, and culturally grounded care within the health center.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in health administration, Public Health, Nursing, Indigenous Health, or a related field (master’s preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in health or human services sectors, ideally in a First Nation or community-based setting.
- Strong understanding of First Nations health issues, cultural safety, and trauma-informed practices.
- Proven ability to manage teams, lead change, and coordinate complex operational systems.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Bilingual (English/French) and/or fluency in Algonquin considered a strong asset.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Coordination and Oversight
- Support the Director in translating strategic priorities into operational plans and oversee the execution of these initiatives within the Health Center.
- Monitor performance indicators, assist with continuous quality improvement, and ensure alignment with TFN health mandates and policies.
- Coordinate key activities and cross-functional projects, ensuring that deadlines, deliverables, and reporting requirements are met.
Operational Leadership
- Serve as the primary liaison between clinical teams and the Director, helping to resolve barriers to service delivery and streamline communication.
- Oversee administrative workflows, including scheduling, internal communications, procedural compliance, and documentation management.
- Collaborate with program leads to ensure proper implementation of health protocols, service pathways, and reporting practices.
- Organizational Performance and Human Resources
- Support staff performance management processes, including onboarding, training coordination, supervision support, and fostering a culture of excellence.
- Work with Human Resources and the Director to implement workforce planning strategies, staffing models, and professional development plans.
- Contribute to the development and enforcement of policies and procedures that promote client-centered care and respectful workplace conduct.
Internal and External Relations
- Represent the Health Center in interdepartmental initiatives, working groups, and with community partners as delegated by the Director.
- Coordinate with internal service providers (e.g., mental health, prevention, child development, Jordan’s Principle) to maintain an integrated and responsive care model.
- Ensure effective internal communication channels are maintained between management, clinical staff, and community members.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Standard office hours apply, with occasional evening or weekend responsibilities based on community needs or emergencies.
- Work is primarily based out of the TFN Health Center, with some travel required to attend meetings or support service partnerships.
