Timmins and Area Women in Crisis (TAWC) is a dynamic, community based feminist organization, which provides services on intimate partner abuse and sexual violence to women and their children in the Timmins area. TAWC works within an integrated feminist, anti-racism, anti-oppression framework. The agency administers a sexual assault centre, an emergency shelter as well as second stage housing to abused women and their children.
We are looking for a dynamic and highly motivated woman to join our team in the capacity of Anti-Human Trafficking Child Witness Worker in a Contract position at Timmins and Area Women in Crisis.
The ideal candidates will demonstrate the following:
Qualifications:
Post-secondary degree/diploma in a relevant field
Proven dedication to violence against women work/ women’s issues
Solid understanding of feminist ideology and anti-racism/anti-oppression principles
Experience in providing crisis intervention, support, information, and referrals to survivors of sexual violence
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Understanding of the social service sector and provision of non-profit service to the community
Ability to organize and carry out programming, groups, activities, and events
Demonstrated sound judgment, problem-solving, conflict resolution, crisis intervention, advocacy, and mediation skills
Must be able to do lifting/carrying
Must have flexible work availability
Must possess a valid Class G driver’s license and own a reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage
Must undergo a vulnerable sector criminal record check
Main Responsibilities:
Coordinate and co-facilitate specialized trauma-informed individual and group support to women and children and youth who have witnessed/experienced violence
Provide one-on-one crisis intervention to support women who intake with children
Work with women to develop a general support plan to ensure her children’s needs are met during their shelter stay and upon discharge
Provide younger service users and women with a variety of recreational and social activities
Provide ongoing age-appropriate education regarding feminist AR/AO principles
Advocate on behalf of the woman and her child/ren as required
Support the delivery of programs in elementary schools, libraries and/or other community spaces
Link women and their dependents to appropriate community partners
Accompany and advocate for clients as needed.
Link women to appropriate community referrals.
Coordinate and facilitate community groups and meetings
Oversee the recruitment, orientation, and supervision of volunteers
Build relationships within the community to facilitate donations
Manage donations for the clothing program and clients
Complete various administrative tasks
Attend and participate in fundraising and awareness-raising ventures
Liaise with community partners
Participate in agency and community events
Hours of Work: 14 hours per week-this position may be combined with another available role to form a FT opportunity
