The Accounting Clerk is responsible for accurately posting to the General Ledger and maintaining accounts receivable records, the accurate and prompt preparation of invoices. They will guide and assist out-patient admitting and registration personnel to ensure accurate information is taken to ensure invoicing and follow-ups are completed properly. The Accounting Clerk will follow-up with insurance companies, lawyers and doctors’ offices and doctor’s offices as required. In addition, they are responsible for acknowledging the facility’s Mission Statement which highlights quality improvement, and working in a safe manner.
Accounting Clerk – Permanent Full-Time

Rate of Pay: $30.931 - $32.973
Hours of Work: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm Monday to Friday
Mandatory Requirements:
· Graduate from a community college or university specializing in Accounting
· Office experience with accounts receivable and data processing; good knowledge of bookkeeping
· Proficiency in computer programs (Excel / Word / Accounting)
· Oral proficiency in French at an advanced or superior level is required
· Must have an excellent work record, including attendance
· Ability to multi-task
· Must demonstrate a commitment to ensure personal safety, the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers and visitors
· Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in the organization
Assets:
· Experience with serving the public
· Recent OHIP billing and Meditech (within the past 3 years)
Duties:
1. Ensures the accuracy of both inpatient and outpatient charges to patients and agencies.
2. Daily posts charges and payment, credits to individual accounts.
3. Ensures timely follow-up and collection of outstanding accounts.
4. Reconciles aged trial balance with general ledger monthly and submits to Accountant.
5. Prepares the list of accounts to be written off as bad debts.
6. Maintains records of all donations made for Palliative Care, CAT Scan, Dialysis, Day/Med etc. or general use and prepares appropriate acknowledgement and tax receipts.
7. Balances daily cash at Switchboard.
8. Makes deposits at the bank twice a week
9. Submission of claims to various insurances
10. Records various funding in the General Ledger
11. Bill physician for monthly parking and cafeteria charges. Clears cafeteria tabs as billed.
12. Prepares radiologist billing
13. Ensures physician fees are collected from self pay patients and physicians receive payment.
14. Invoices and explains chronic co-payment regulations to families and patients. Ensures proper forms are completed.
15. Keep up-to-date with current hospital programs, Risk Management, WHMIS and Emergency Plans.
16. Contribute to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families.
17. Perform other duties as required.
