POSITION SUMMARY
Omushkego Education is seeking a passionate and experienced Cree Language and Land-Based Learning Lead to join our team. The successful candidate will support, and work with, the Cree Language and Culture teachers in the OESS schools by developing, implementing, and overseeing Cree language programs and land-based learning activities. Under the direction of the Omushkego Education Director of Education and the respective Principals, the OESS Cree Language/Land-Based Learning Lead assists in the development of and completes activities and outcomes as outlined in the School Success Planning work plan. He/she will collaborate with educators to integrate Cree language and land-based learning into the broader curriculum. The OESS Cree Language and Land-based Learning Lead will work with educators in creating, and providing resource lesson plans, and teaching materials that support Cree language acquisition and cultural education. This role aims to enhance the educational experience of our students by integrating traditional knowledge, language and cultural practices into the curriculum.
REQUIREMENTS
· B.A., and B.Ed. degree and a minimum of three years experience as a teacher
· Must have Ontario College of Teachers certificate in good standing
· Cree Language Teacher or Land-Based Learning Teacher certification or experience in teaching Cree Language and/or Culture and/or Land-Based Learning will be considered an asset
· Comprehensive knowledge of Ontario Curriculum and experience in embedding/integrating Indigenous histories/perspectives and world-view
· Expertise in developing, implementing, and reviewing Cree Language programs and services at elementary and secondary schools
· Comprehensive knowledge of current school success planning practices in elementary and secondary schools
· Proven experience in designing and facilitating professional development for educators
· Familiarity with the Mushkegowuk communities of Moose Factory, Fort Albany, Kashechewan and Attawapiskat
· Ability to maintain confidentiality
· Strong leadership, time management and problem solving skills
· Excellent interpersonal, communication (oral and written), and computer skills
· Fluency in reading, writing and speaking Cree an asset
· Valid Class “G” Driver’s Licence
· Must provide a copy of current satisfactory Criminal Records Check and Vulnerable Persons Screening Check
