PSW will ensure the development and provision of culturally appropriate community support services for urban Indigenous seniors/elders, people with disabilities, the chronically ill, and those with special needs. This job specifically seeks a certified Personal Support Worker (PSW) who will support clients with daily personal care needs and activities of daily living.
Qualifications:
Current Personal Support Worker (PSW) certification obtained through successfully completing a PSW training program from an accredited/recognized institution.
- The candidate will have a minimum of one (1) year of demonstrated and related work experience with health and social services.
- Completed vulnerable sector check and CPIC
- Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history.
- Knowledge of Long Term Care and Indigenous peoples
- Spoken and written English, the ability to speak Cree is and asset
- Willingness to work flexible hours
- Awareness of the Friendship movement, its aims and objectives
- Registered membership with the Ontario Personal Support Worker Association (OPSWA) or equivalent is strongly encouraged.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Valid CPR/AED-Level C Certification.
- Upon hiring an updated immunization record with a negative TB test completed within the last 12 months will be requested.
- Ability to lift approximately 55 pounds, complete physically demanding tasks, frequent movements such as climbing stairs, standing, bending, reaching etc.
- Working within clients’ homes and ability to travel.
- Working within clients’ home yet able to accompany/transport client to appointments
Working Hours:
Works a flexible 35 hour work week,. It is mandatory to ensure the program consists of a minimum of two (2) evening or weekend programming per month. Salary range $ 60,000-$65,000, Health benefits, cultural and wellness days.
