MINERAL DEVELOPMENT ADVISOR

VALUE MAPPING

 

Brief description

The position of the Mineral Development Advisor is responsible for supporting Apitipi Anicinabek Nation members in their responses to mining exploration issues. He/She must be able to communicate effectively with community members and other First Nations.

 

Tasks

  • Act as a resource for Apitipi Anicinabek Nation community seeking to build understanding with regard
  • to mineral exploration and development
  • Coordinate on behalf of AAN, to liaise with the MNDM and industry proponents and to receive and review notices of proposed early exploration activities (plans and/or permit
  • applications)
  • Support the development of capacity within AAN to effectively participate in and benefit from mineral exploration and development activities, including the negotiation of arrangements with industry proponents, where appropriate
  • Use ArcGIS to create report maps locating known Traditional Knowledge in relation to the planned Plan or Permit area.
  • The Mining Development Advisor will also provide analysis of government (First Nation, federal and provincial) legislation, regulations and policies that affect Apitipi Anicinabek Nation in relation to the mining sector.
  • Must have proven well-developed communication, staff/public relations and negotiating experience; must be highly self-motivated and able to work well independently or as a team member.
  • Other duties

 

Qualifications and requirements

•       University Degree, master’s degree, Ph.D. (anyone) in the related field.

•       Familiar with ESRI, GIS software and GPS units is an asset

•       Diploma in Environmental Science

•       In depth knowledge of Nations history, culture, values, and political structures

•       Knowledge of rules and regulations along with quality review act along with proficiency in written reports

•       Ability to carry out administrative or staff assignments and present them in writing or verbal format.

•       Technical knowledge and expertise with, regard to, mineral exploration methods, terminology etc.

•       Excellent and effective written & verbal communication skills

•       Experience in Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)

•       Police Check Vulnerable Sector

Lines of communication

•       The Mineral Development Advisor /Value Mapping reports directly to the Director of Lands and Resources

 

Working conditions

•       This is a full-time position, and the working hours are from Monday to Friday, 8:30a.m. to 4:00p.m. Additional hours may be necessary for the proper performance of the Employee’s duties.
