The Timmins Native Friendship Centre (TNFC) is an award-winning Friendship Centre in that provides services and programs to support the cultural heritage of Indigenous peoples and assist in their inclusion and participation in urban life. Primary Objective:

The Indigenous Community Mental Health Program (ICMHP) provides culture based mental health services to Indigenous people regardless of their legal definition. Program services include: supportive counselling, cultural support services, education and awareness, intervention, intakes and assessment, and referrals. Its primary goal is to strengthen a Good Mind and promote mental health and well-being for urban Indigenous people.

Education/Work Experience:

 

  • Possess post-secondary education in Indigenous studies, social service work, child and youth work or a combination of equivalent and relevant education.
  • The candidate will have a minimum of two (2) years of demonstrated and related work experience within a mental health and/or social service setting.
  • Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with particular emphasis on the impacts of trauma, family violence, Indigenous youth engagement and community outreach.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous Healing and Wellness Strategy (IHWS), Ontario Mental Health Act, community health services and other related agencies.
  • Must possess skills and experience in presenting educational workshops and facilitating groups.
  • To be knowledgeable of and to work with community agencies and referral sources.
  • Must have the ability to work as a team player and be capable of coordinating activities with other Friendship Centre Programs.
  • Knowledge of the Friendship Centre movement, its aims and objectives.
  • Ability to speak Cree and/or Ojibway an asset.
  • Current Standard First Aid and Level C CPR; WHMIS; and Food Handler Certificate.
  • Excellent knowledge and ability to work proficiently with the company software packages, e-mail and the Internet.
  • Must be licensed to drive a motor vehicle, insured to do so in the Province of Ontario and have access to a safe and reliable vehicle.
  • Ability to provide a clear Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Persons Check

Working Hours:

 

Works a flexible 35 hour work week. Hours of operation are generally from 8:30am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday, although hours may vary depending on program activities. It is mandatory to ensure the program consists of a minimum of 2 evening or weekend programming per month.

Salary range $ 55,000, Health benefits, cultural and wellness days.
