Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Housing and Maintenance Supervisor, the Housing Labourer is responsible for completing general repairs, routine maintenance, and the overall upkeep of residential units to ensure safe, functional, and well-maintained homes. The role may also provide support to other departments as required and participate in an after-hours on-call rotation.
Qualifications/Requirements:
· Grade 12 diploma or equivalent preferred
· Previous experience in general maintenance, construction, or related field
· Basic knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, and general repair work
· Ability to operate and maintain tools and equipment safely
· Knowledge of workplace health and safety practices
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team
· Strong time management and problem-solving skills
· Good communication and interpersonal skills
· Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation may be required
· Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and working outdoors in various weather conditions
· Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation and respond to after-hours emergencies
Duties and Responsibilities
· Perform general maintenance and repairs in residential units and housing properties
· Conduct routine inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns
· Complete work orders in a timely and efficient manner
· Assist with unit turnovers, including cleaning, repairs, and preparation for new tenants
· Carry out seasonal duties such as snow removal, lawn care, and general groundskeeping
· Maintain tools, equipment, and workspaces in safe and organized condition
· Follow all occupational health and safety regulations and procedures
· Support other departments with maintenance-related tasks as required
· Participate in an after-hours on-call rotation for emergency maintenance needs
· Maintain respectful and professional interactions with tenants and community members
