About Keepers of the Circle

Keepers of the Circle is an Indigenous Hub operated by the Temiskaming Native Women’s Support Group (TNWSG), a non-profit organization founded in 1997 to promote the economic, cultural, and social equity of Indigenous women, girls, and gender diverse peoples.

 

About the Role

Keepers of the Circle is looking to recruit a Child Development Researcher to explore ways to improve quality and accessibility of Indigenous Early Learning and Childcare with an emphasis on Indigenous culture and language.

The successful candidate will hold consultations with Indigenous community, Elders, and the Council of Wisdom Keepers to design and pilot a land-based curriculum that is grounded in the culture, teachings, and language as well as develop trainings and tools that will support Indigenous Early Learning Childcare staff who work with children with special needs.

 

This position is on a full-time (35 hrs per week) basis and will be located within the Temiskaming District.

 

Requirements:  

 

·         Degree in Child Development Studies, Children and Youth Studies, Early Childhood Education, or a related field.

·         Valid First Aid certificate with Infant CPR (or ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment)

·         A valid G class driver's licence, clean driver's abstract, and access to a reliable vehicle

·         Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening

·         Exceptional understanding and knowledge of Indigenous culture, traditions, and socio-economic issues affecting Indigenous families

·         Knowledge of local Indigenous communities, organizations, and service providers within the Temiskaming District
